Imagine someone is so manipulative that you end up questioning whether getting mad at them for eating things you bought with your own money and not paying you back for them or replacing them was wrong.

These examples represent only a fraction of the challenges that can arise in shared housing; that's why one always has to keep a clear state of consciousness to deal with a roommate's nonsense.

Few things are more infuriating than coming home after a long day of dreaming about your favourite snack, only to find out your roomie has eaten it without asking for permission, offering to replace it, or even apologising.

I totally understand that seeing a delicious snack lying there on the counter can be tempting, and you might not have the money or the willpower to replace it right away, but trying to deny your way out of something that is clearly a mistake on your end is crazy.

The only way to come out unscathed from this situation would be to protect her narrative at all costs; there is no room to question whether it is fine to eat what she paid for without facing any consequences. She gets to apply those rules to her property.

If he would prefer a more flexible arrangement, that is something to be discussed separately, but that doesn't mean he can be exempted from paying for what he eats or treats his friends with. Are we seriously discussing whether she should fund his gatherings? Should that even be allowed to be up for debate?

  • Things like these always go down the same way: minor situations add up until one day someone snaps and gets really angry over something apparently 'minor', and it seems that they are the 'crazy' ones and the ones to blame, when in reality, they've been putting up with mildly infuriating behavior for too long.
